UW-BÖ9-VS: import module Eco-9 Zoo and Wildlife Biology (lecture, seminar, practical, self-study, excursion: summer semester)
Modules include lecture and/or seminar to provide theoretical factual knowledge on relevant topics in zoo and wildlife biology. The focus of the courses is to provide up-to-date knowledge on: Conceptual foundations of zoo biology, animal behavior, animal ethics and husbandry conditions, educational work, and methods of zoo and wildlife research. All master's degree programs have the option of a thesis.
The topics of zoo animal biology, animal and species conservation, and the educational mission of zoos are addressed in all teacher education courses (L1, L2-5, L3) and prepared in a manner appropriate to the target audience. Contents include basic aspects and current topics of zoo biology as well as direct animal encounters at the zoo.
Excursions to the zoo as an extracurricular place of learning, embedded in the course of the seminar, offer an excellent opportunity for this. In addition, both scientific and didactic questions can be discussed and concepts can be implemented and evaluated. There is also the possibility to write the scientific term paper with a focus on zoo animal biology.
